Exercise has become a major part of my mental health toolbox over the last few years. Endurance training especially helps me regulate my sleep, which I’ve learned is key in helping me feel well. It’s lowered my resting heart rate and helped keep me calmer in stressful situations.
From time to time, I get frustrated seeing social media posts about how exercise is a replacement for therapy or medication. It isn’t. And statements like these further stigmatize other important tools available to people with mental health challenges.
