One aspect of teaching that’s surprised me is how gratifying it feels to see my students progress in their skill development. When I returned their graded assignments last week, I included feedback individually and also posted an announcement to the class summarizing the comments that were consistent across the group.
This morning, when I did the grading, I saw a significant improvement in the areas I’d highlighted from last week. In online teaching there isn’t always a lot of interaction with the students, so it can be tough to tell if messages have landed. Based on what I saw in the work product, I feel confident that my efforts made a difference.
Although it’s incremental progress, it is forward motion nonetheless. I’m proud of that and I’m proud of them.
